A little help with historians

a suggestion: read from both sides of the "history". Read revisionists also. Some are quite good.
Remember that history is written by the victors.

I do read both sides. For example I'll soon be looking at Christopher Hill's account of the English Civil War (a marxist). I ust genuinely don't know any good Catholic historians (apart from Duffy) and would really like to know some. Not just the focus topics, anybody please!!

You may have heard of David Irving. He's the guy Bishop Williamson sourced for his crime against humanity and the cosmos.

The Carroll books were good:

"The Last Crusade" for the Spanish civil war

"Guillotine and the Cross" for France

And you have to go with Belloc on the Reformation.  He has a couple of books.

Warren Carroll is a well-known Catholic historian, you can try his books.
For English or Irish history, I recommend The Story of the Irish Race by Seumas McManus, Swords around the Cross By Timothy O'Donnell, and the series on the Plantagenets by Thomas Costain (not Catholic, but not prejudiced, and writes an entertaining account).

William Thomas Walsh is at the top of my list.

Dr Thomas Woods is solid. He writes for the everyman, which is sometimes patronizing.  But he is a fast and well-footnoted read.

Indeed, but from a Whiggish and Austrian(economic) POV.

What about Christopher Dawson?  I think he was a Catholic. He certainly writes favorably about the Catholic Church in his book "Dynamics of World History".

avatarURI must be set to the URI of the users avatar. It only works for one poster. It would be easy to modify it to do more than one.

If anyone really wants that to be done, let me know.
