Not among any Catholic theologians I have ever read.

Hunting with intent to consume or donate the meat or hunting to keep people or livelihood (crops) safe is licit to me. As is culling.
Hunting for the thrill of killing a living thing and wasting it's resources just doesn't sit well with me. I don't think home decorating is a good reason to kill.

What some people consider hunting is really just ambushing. Deer stands in my neck of the woods can border on the ridiculous.

Keep reading then because the answer to this question is not contained in the deposit of faith or revelation.

Never said it was part of the deposit of faith or revelation. Just said that in 30+ years of reading, I've never come across a Catholic theologian holding the opinion. Lots of pagans and neo-pagans do, of course.

And I'm sure this "question" just popped up in the last 50 years or so. No-one would have cared before neo-paganism and new age became predominant in the West and even those who do care now only think of their sweet pets not the savage lions or the insignificant ants.

Animals are godless.  If they do have souls....they are all damned to Hell.

They do have souls, of course, but not immortal souls, Thus, they can neither be saved nor damned.

Going hunting is a blessing for mind and soul.  I have a Colt .22 caliber cowboy pistol for that purpose.
