I think one thing to keep in mind about this is that, in a way, there really is something magical about Latin. After a couple thousand years, we in the West now associate Latin with the sacred. In a similar way, English speakers associate King James English with the sacred even though there is nothing inherently "magical" about it. The fact that these things actually do convey a sense of the sacred is downplayed because this sense is subjective, but favoring "hard facts" over subjective experience is really just Enlightenment bias.
