On February 13th, in an interview with German daily Die Welt, Father Franz Schmidberger, District Superior of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) in Germany, said that dialogue with the Vatican was not broken, while reaffirming that full recognition of Vatican II, “no ifs, ands, or buts,” could not be considered by the FSSPX, because “the Council has brought about a devastating loss of faith, a decline in morality and the ravaging of the liturgy.” The former Superior General of the SSPX succinctly made his point that this is why concessions on issues such as religious freedom or the meaning of the priesthood are not acceptable to the Society.

I thought you spoke German? That's a typical spoken German colloquialism in print.

In this case one does not translate oder. But rather,  understand it to be an emphasis word that is not translated; understand it as part of the idiom.

Verstehst du denn?

Ja.

Ich kann  einfache sätze auf Deutsch sprechen lesen und schreiben.
Deutsche muttersprachler haben mir gesagt, dass ich gut Deutsch sprechen kann,
aber ich kann noch immer keine schwierigen Sätze auf Deutsch schreiben.
