Cardinal Koch said, "The Catholic Church's relationship to Judaism as taught by the Second Vatican Council and the interpretations and developments of that teaching by subsequent popes, "are binding on a Catholic,"
Supplex: 2000 years of Church tradition is binding on a Catholic. Since when did one pastoral council, that made no infallible statements, become a super council that dictates Church tradition. Certainly as a Catholic Cardinal, you don't believe that the Church started in 1964? What would almost 2000 years of Church tradition think about your "interpretation and developments of that teaching"? By looking at the crisis in the Church today, I think they would say should have stuck with us.
Cardinal Koch said, "it is very necessary to make clear the difference between the position of the Society of St. Pius X and the negation of the Shoah (the Holocaust), which is a position that has no place in the Catholic Church. It is very clear."
Supplex: Since when did believing in the Holocaust become a dogma of the Church? It was a historical event with no bearing on whether one is saved or not. It clearly does not belong in the Church because it only occurred because of the sin of men, not because of the Catholic Church. If Catholic Faith would have been greater it would have never happened.
Cardinal Koch said, "The church's theological reflection on its Jewish roots, as well as on the relationship between God's covenant with the Jewish people and the new covenant instituted by Christ have been developed further and authoritatively by Blessed John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI."
Supplex: The Cardinal should have said the church's theological reflection on its Jewish roots, as well as on the relationship between God's abrogated covenant with the Jewish people and God's new covenant instituted by Jesus Christ...
Cardinal Koch said, "God's plan of salvation for humanity began with his covenant with the Jewish people and if Christianity ignores that", he said, "It is in danger of losing its location within salvation history."
Supplex: You have this completely wrong Cardinal Koch. God's plan of salvation for humanity began with his covenant instituted by Jesus Christ. If Jews ignore that, then they are in danger of losing their location within Catholic salvation. Because as you well know Cardinal, Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus!
Cardinal Koch said, "While Catholics profess that, in the end, all salvation will be accomplished through Jesus Christ, "it does not necessarily follow that the Jews are excluded from God's salvation because they do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah of Israel and the son of God."
Supplex: Dear Cardinal Koch, let’s see what 2000 years of Catholic Tradition has to say about your comment.
Fourth Lateran Council (1215): “There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved.”
Pope Eugene IV, Bull Cantate Domino (1441): “The most Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that none of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can profit by the sacraments of the Church unto salvation, and they alone can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.”
Pope Leo XII (1823-1829), Encyclical Ubi Primum: “We profess that there is no salvation outside the Church. … For the Church is the pillar and ground of the truth. With reference to those words Augustine says: `if any man be outside the Church he will be excluded from the number of sons, and will not have God for Father since he has not the Church for mother.’”
Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903), Encyclical Annum Ingressi Sumus: “This is our last lesson to you; receive it, engrave it in your minds, all of you: by God’s commandment salvation is to be found nowhere but in the Church.”
St. Fulgentius (468-533), Bishop: “Most firmly hold and never doubt that not only pagans, but also Jews, all heretics, and all schismatics who finish this life outside of the Catholic Church, will go into eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”
St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226): “All who have not believed that Jesus Christ was really the Son of God are doomed. Also, all who see the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and do not believe it is really the most holy Body and Blood of the Lord . . . these also are doomed!”
St. Louis Marie de Montfort (1673-1716): “There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. Anyone who resists this truth perishes.”
