A Fresh Attack on the SSPX (Western Catholic Reporter, Canada)

Well, he at least gets the ecumenism bit right.  He doesn't want union with the SSPX for the sake of union, he's saying it can only be done if the SSPX return to Catholicism.

And the only way one can be outside of the Church is to be unbaptized, heretical, or schismatic. He is arguing that since the SSPX rejects Vatican II, they are heretics. The funny thing is that this completely goes against what Conservatives and others say (that VII did not introduce any new novelty, must be read in light of tradition, hermeneutic of continuity, etc.)

I'm not saying he's taken the right side, I'm just saying he's got the principle right.  Trads complain that NO Catholics get this wrong.  That being said, the SSPX is certainly schismatic.

That there is only One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church we are compelled by faith to believe and hold, and we firmly believe in her and sincerely confess her, outside of whom there is neither salvation nor remission of sins.....Furthermore we declare, state and define that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of all human beings that they submit to the Roman Pontiff.

I agree. This is why the SSPX position is a bit problematic, but even then, they are not schismatic.

Even the authorities in the Vatican have not said as such.

Your interpretation is dodgy. The SSPX do submit to the Holy Father. They are just disobedient in not accepting Vatican II, for good reasons.
