A woman who aborted her own baby in the final phase of her pregnancy has been jailed for eight years.

Sarah Louise Catt, 35, of Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, took a drug when she was full term, 39 weeks pregnant, to cause an early delivery.

She claimed the boy was stillborn and that she buried his body, but no evidence of the child was ever found.

Catt made a "deliberate and calculated decision" to end her pregnancy, a Leeds Crown Court judge said.

Catt, of Eversley Court, who already had two children with her husband, had a scan at 30 weeks confirming her pregnancy at a hospital in Leeds, the court heard.

There were three cases similar to this which were brought to my attention a few years ago here in the US. In all three the statutes allowed the mother to kill the child by whatever means so they were not prosecuted. Coincidentally all buried the baby's body but not in a cemetery. In one case the boyfriend and baby's daddy dug the backyard hole for the child, and was subsequently prosecuted for it. Mom wasn't and he went to jail. I so love the irony in US justice.

You can't kill your baby on your own, you have to let us do it!

In Mexico, except for Mexico City, an unborn baby is considered a human being.

In the Mexican case, where the men abandonned the women before they had the abortions, the men should really get hard time too if abandonment can be proven.  Maybe not as long but at least 5-10 years.
