And yet...wasn't he the pope who lamented the smoke of satan getting into the Church? It was him...right? Split personality?

Why worry about what the National Catholic Reporter says. They have an editorial policy that is at odds with the Catholic Church. If you spend your time eorrying about what they have to say it wont do you any good. They wont cheange and you spend your time being miserable.

Because they are a national publication that purports to be Catholic.

That may be, but the Catholic Church seems to think the name is accurate enough. I'm sure someone would request a name change if they didn't embody a Catholic spirit-- we've seen this done before, where someone in the hierarchy sues someone for using the name "Catholic" in their business.

Go thy ways, old Jack; die when thou wilt, if manhood, good manhood, be not forgot upon the face of the earth, then am I a shotten herring. There live not three good men unhanged in England; and one of them is fat and grows old: God help the while! a bad world, I say. I would I were a weaver; I could sing psalms or any thing. A plague of all cowards, I say still.

Apparently the bishops are better at killing tradition than reigning in a rogue publication!

I'm fairly sure the National Catholic Reporter was condemned by the local ordinary in the late 60s.

I posted a mild-mannered statement of the virtues of the Tridentine Mass and the comment was removed within the hour.
