I think Allen realizes time is short to milk this conclave publicity.

I think everyone is aware that today is the last day before the conclave. No need to attribute especial malice to John Allen on that count.

Regarding O'Malley, a brief against his supposed good track record in Boston:

Not attributing malice. Business is business. Allen knows his readership goes up 10-fold when it's conclave time (based on his experience the last time around). Might as well milk it while he can.
