Seasoning a cast iron skillet

it prevents rust and is like natural teflon like others have said use a vegetable shortening or lard I tend to use more layers when I season mine but its all personal preference really

Yes. They release trace amounts of iron, a necessary nutrient, tho' I've been told by a doctor that the molecules are too large to be utilised by the body.
