Well, I thought I should add a postscript to this thread.
I have lost 140 pounds since Holy Week 2013. I was around 330 pounds. I now weigh 188 pounds. (I'm 6' 1.5".) The really good news is that I have been maintaining this weight, give or take several pounds, since February. Maintenance is the key. It's clear now that my body has reached its natural weight.
I monitor my weight to make sure it remains in the upper half of the "healthy weight" range according to the body mass index. That range is 23.0 - 24.9. So I remain between 24.0 and 24.9, which for me is 184-191 pounds. Using a range, rather than a specific weight, is better; it avoids obsession over normal fluctuations in weight.
Again, I strongly recommend the book Intuitive Eating, as well as a diet that focuses on whole, unprocessed foods and those that make up the "paleo diet," but without being rigoristic about it.
So here is a recent photograph. This is my usual look. No frills.

Update.
I've continued to maintain my 140 pound weight loss. I've remained at the same weight -- about 188 pounds -- since February 2014, so it's been six months.
It's clear now that my body has reached a new set point, which is the best outcome I could have hoped for. So I'll post one last photo, taken just now as I was cleaning up my apartment today.
Deo gratias.

Thank you for sharing your experience and advice. I too need to change my life time eating habits, which are atrocious. I now have type 2 diabetes, and must change if I want to live. I just ordered the book from Amazon and will let you know how it works out for me, I weigh 292 pounds, and I am 5'6. Bless you for being an inspiration.
