Origin of SODOMY
Middle English, from Anglo-French sodomie, from Late Latin Sodoma Sodom; from the homosexual proclivities of the men of the city in Genesis 19:1–11
First Known Use: 13th century

I acknowledge the dictionary definitions, AB. But what I said still stands:  these are not "primarily" homosexual things.

Layman made that comment, not me.

I know; I was just wanting your opinion.  If "sodomy" means not just anal sex, but also oral sex, then... ?

Abortion is murder and no one gets arrested for it.

I do not think giving your wife oral sex is a sin on par with murder. I think in this context we are talking about male-on-male anal sex.

So male-on-male anal sex is on par with murder? If so why is it worse than a different form of sodomy?

Because it is not only compounding the sin of sodomy with the sin of same sex relations, but also because it is specifically singled out in the Scriptures as being an abomination.

But it is an abuse that puts you on the road to further depravity.

No murderer just murders someone one day.  They work their way up to it through abuse of violence.  You can use violence to defend yourself justly, or you can abuse violence to unjustly harm someone.

Oral sex isn't on par with murder, but it is on par with abuses in a murderer's life that lead to murder.

Abuses which are still mortal sins, by the way, even though they're not as severe as murder.

Quarreling physically is a mortal sin, in case you didn't know.

This is what I echo. Sacred Scripture states emphatically that same sex acts are an abomination.

But surely we have a responsibility to engage them and try to straighten the bent rod (no pun intended).

Liberal Catholics will try to argue that the scriptural prohibition on sodomy from Genesis is actually a story about the value of hospitality. This is quite an asinine argument because Sodom and Gomorha is referred to in Jude 1:7 where it is made explicit that this is about sexual immorality.
