New Homeless Shelter
The Vatican has opened a new dormitory for the homeless of Rome, located just over a block from St. Peter’s Square.

The Dono di Misericordia (“Gift of Mercy) house will house 34 men. The guests, who must be interviewed by the staff and must obey rules of the residence, will stay for a maximum of 30 days.

The residence, located near the Santo Spirito Hospital, is housed in a building that was presented to Pope Francis by the Jesuit order, after the Pontiff asked religious institutions to help provide for people in need. The building was renovated under the direction of the papal almoner, and will be staff by the Missionaries of Charity.
