Merry Christmas 2015

Merry Christmas to all on FE. It is time for what I have done on other sites :my annual posting of Adeste Fideles.

Adeste fideles, laeti triumphantes
Venite, venite in Bethlehem
Natum videte, Regem angelorum
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus
Venite adoremus, Dominum.

Deum de Deo, Lumen de Lumine,
Gestant puellae viscera,
Deum verum, Genitum non factum.
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum

En grege relicto, Humiles ad cunas
Vocati pastores approperant.
Et nos ovanti, Gradu festinemus;
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum

Cantet nunc Io chorus Angelorum;
Cantet nunc aula caelestium:
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum.

Stella duce, Magi Christum adorantes,
Aurum, tus et myrrham dant munera.
Iesu infanti corda praebeamus;
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum.

Aeterni Parrentis splendorem aeternum
Velatum sub carne videbimus:
Deum Infantem, pannis involutum,
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum.

Pro nobis egenum et foeno cubantem
Piis foveamus amplexibus:
Sic nos amantem quis non redamaret?
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum.

Ergo qui natus die hodierna,
Iesu, tibi sit gloria,
Patris aeterni Verbum caro factum.
Venite adoremus, venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum.
Adeste, fideles; adoremus Dominum
Adeste, fideles!

Complete English lyrics

O come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

God of God
Light of Light,
Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
Very God, begotten not created.
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

See how the shepherds,
Summoned to His cradle,
Leaving their flocks, draw nigh to gaze;
We too will thither
Bend our joyful footsteps;
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Lo! star led chieftains,
Magi, Christ adoring,
Offer Him incense, gold, and myrrh;
We to the Christ Child bring our hearts’ oblations.
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Splendor Immortal,
Son of God Eternal,
Now hidden in mortal flesh our eyes shall view.
See there the Infant, swaddling clothes enfold him.
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Child, for us sinners
Poor and in the manger,
We would embrace Thee, with love and awe;
Who would not love Thee, loving us so dearly?
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Sing! Choirs of Angels;
Sing in exaltation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above;
Glory to God, in the highest
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Yea, Lord, we greet thee!
Born this happy morning,
Jesus, to Thee be glory given;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing:
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Well, it is too late to wish you a Merry Christmas, but I can still wish you all a blessed Christmastide.

I pray you will find what I have found for many years now - that this is a time of incredible potential in terms of prayer, searching and graces.

For this reason, I will hardly be active either at Fisheaters or online generally these next few days. This is because I am with some very pressing personal things and need to actively search for answers.

But for any of you who might be suffering and also needing answers, I felt like sharing what I am sure others have noticed too: it is a time when prayer is answered in a special way.

One Catholic mystic (Valentin Tomberg) speaks of the Archangels drawing closer to humanity during the 12 days of Christmas. Personally, I find that very, very easy to believe ...

I say this from rural Ireland where the silence is palpable at this time. I'm sure it must be different in a large American city, say.

But still the grace is here. Personally, I make sure I confess, get to Mass daily (which alas usually has to be the Novus Ordo) and pray much more intensively in the mornings.

And in the course of my Catholic life these last 15 years, I have personally found this time of year to be completely unlike any other - where prayer is really deepened and answered in  unique, even life-changing.  ways.

Just saying this for any of you who might be facing tough things … God bless you all.
