For those who haven't heard yet, René Girard died

I found out about this only last month. He died in November last year. Perhaps he was the last of the French Catholic intellectuals. No one else living comes to mind these days.

Anyway, for those interested, here's two obituaries:

I take it that you have read his Violence and the Sacred. I have had that book on a shelf for years, waiting for me to read it. What are your thoughts about it?

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

I haven't read any of his works in their entirety, but I want to. I'll be in France this May for a pilgrimage, and I hope to get a copy of one of his books. I'm not sure which one to start with, but the work you mentioned is probably a good start. Since I have a violent temperament, I'm really interested in reading it.

I've been meaning to get into his works since a good friend of mine admires his work, but I haven't made the time yet. Thanks for the post!
