Francis exposed as a liar by own advisers on abuse victim
#1
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis received a victim’s letter in 2015 that graphically detailed how a priest sexually abused him and how other Chilean clergy ignored it, contradicting the pope’s recent insistence that no victims had come forward to denounce the cover-up, the letter’s author and members of Francis’ own sex- abuse commission have told The Associated Press.

The fact that Francis received the eight-page letter, obtained by the AP, challenges his insistence that he has “zero tolerance” for sex abuse and cover-ups. It also calls into question his stated empathy with abuse survivors, compounding the most serious crisis of his five-year papacy. https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2018/0....html#more

                                                                And from the BBC
Mr Cruz sent the text of his letter (written in Spanish) to BBC News, showing it was addressed personally to Pope Francis and dated 3 March 2015.

That was more than two weeks before the bishop's ordination in the south Chilean city of Osorno, an event dramatically disrupted by hundreds of protesters accusing Bishop Barros of covering up Karadima's sex attacks on young boys.http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-42949250

Slightly off-topic, but for those who have Netflix, there was a recent Chilean movie about Karadima entitled "El Bosque de Karadima."  It is in Spanicsh (or Chileno, as I like to call it) with English sub-titles.   My wife (who is Chilean) and I watched it about a year or so ago.  Decent movie that, while not directly touching on the Barros situation, provides background of how bad the Karadima scandals were.

Pope sends sex abuse envoy to Chile after deeming allegations a "calumny"

The move marks the first known time the Vatican has launched a full-blown investigation into allegations of sex abuse cover-up, and it comes after Francis was harshly criticized by the media, survivors of abuse, his fellow Jesuits and some of his top advisers for his unwavering defense of Barros. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/pope...ny-n843246

Now it appears that Francis had also overruled a 2015 warning from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that Barros should not be made a bishop. The Italian Catholic daily La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana reports that not only did the pope see a letter from victims, but that the CDF, under Muller, “had already conducted an preliminary investigation into Barros and the other bishops close to Karadima which had led to the decision to relieve them of their duties.

[i]“But with a letter signed by the Pope in January 2015 and sent to the Chilean bishops, the request for exemption is blocked and shortly thereafter Barros is promoted to…Osorno.”  https://remnantnewspaper.com/web/index.p...abuse-case
