Very true. The whole 'Priory of Sion' and 'Holy Bloodline' was made up out of whole cloth by Pierre Plantard, a very talented hoaxster, but, in the end, a bit unsuccessful, since he was threatened with legal action for libel, or whatever the call it under the Code Napoléon. I, too, think Baigent, Leigh, and Lincoln actually believed the hoax when they found it and thought they had the 'scoop' of millenia. Of course, Brown then plagiarised the whole thing, claimed it was true, and many people with knowledge neither of history nor the Church bought it look stock and barrel.
