Why are so many Catholic papers called the 'Register'?

There's the 'National Catholic Register', and by my count sixteen Diocesan papers called either the 'Register' or something like ours, the 'Southern Nebraska Register'.

Any ideas?

Peace.....guess  - because it carries news that has been authentically registered as news happening and historical  - also a register records day to day up to date activities.  "documented"  God bless, angeltime :heart:
