Dreams where you're battling the devil.

Do you ever have those types of dreams? If so, what do you think that's all about? I just woke up from another one.

Had one very vivid one years ago before my official conversion to Christianity. In brief I was wrestling with a giant bat like creature that pinned me down.  I called on Jesus and a cross of light came in a flash and vaporized this thing. I woke.

Personally I think dreams are places where demons have access sometimes, but God is there too. An exorcist I once knew told me that "they only make their presence known when you're doing something right", as in you must be frustrating them in their behind the scenes attacks so they try to amp it up and scare you in more direct ways. Interesting either way.
Walk before God in simplicity, and not in subtleties of the mind. Simplicity brings faith; but subtle and intricate speculations bring conceit; and conceit brings withdrawal from God. -Saint Isaac of Syria, Directions on Spiritual Training

"It is impossible in human terms to exaggerate the importance of being in a church or chapel before the Blessed Sacrament as often and for as long as our duties and state of life allow. I very seldom repeat what I say. Let me repeat this sentence. It is impossible in human language to exaggerate the importance of being in a chapel or church before the Blessed Sacrament as often and for as long as our duties and state of life allow. That sentence is the talisman of the highest sanctity. "Father John Hardon

You have dreams about my mother in law?

Seriously, I can't remember having dreams about fighting the devil any time recently.

I've had serious struggles with chastity and purity throughout my life. Since getting married, there has been massive improvements, but I find myself regularly assaulted with pornographic dreams.

All the time, honestly. I typically have ones where I end up fighting him with prayer and then of course the dream ends. I've never had a serious problem with sleep paralysis, but before I was in the Church I would have it happen every so often. It persisted for a few months after I entered the Church, and everytime I began to pray it would immediately lift coupled with a low, inhuman growling or grumbling sound.

Very interesting as I am fascinated with dreams as well as my fight against the sinful temptations of Satan.
In trying to understand what our soul is I theorized that this part of our consciousness that doesn't sleep might be our soul.
Just a thought but either way science can only speculate in explaining dreams, our minds and consciousness.

Before I came back to the church and got confirmed I would have dreams that would assault my efforts at purity that would leave me almost afraid to go back to sleep.  After praying I started reciting something that was almost the Sanctus and every time after that it would just go away.  I didn't realize what I was praying was a thing until a few weeks later.

After returning to the Church a few years ago, I began having dreams of a hideous, malevolent angel.  He was very frightening.  After having a few of these dreams, I began praying to St. Michael.  The next time I had the dream, another angel appeared and thrust his sword into the demonic angel, who then vanished.  I haven't had the dreams since.  The Devil and his fallen angels will attack us in any way that they can.  Fortunately, God and his holy angels are far more powerful.

Not battling the devil, but 2 or 3 times in my dreams there were persons from which I felt extreme demonic energies. For example, in one dream I entered my kitchen and there was this man standing there and this intense fear came over me and I started to scream uncontrollably for a few seconds and then after I started yelling the st. Michael prayer in Latin at him. The person didn't really react, he kinda just stood there. In another similar dream I again started yelling the st. Michael prayer at him, but I could only remember the first sentence so I started repeating and repeating and repeating it until I woke up and then I proceeded to repeat it until I fell back asleep again. And in one dream I was walking down the street and some, I think it was a cat, was passing me by and I felt intense cold come over me and again I started screaming because I felt the same horrifying evil energy.

As a result I'm not really afraid of anything evil anymore.
