Sadly, in current times, I doubt we have anyone in view who could come close to the stature of Gregory I. :(

Prayer, I believe, is our ONLY option to defeat what I think is a devilishly inspired, man-made organism.

My biggest fear is church closings. So far, I'm impressed with the SSPX's attitude on this, but I don't have a chapel too close.

It's important to keep a supply of food and water in the house. Stay in a state of grace and like Zedta said, pray, pray and then pray some more. This isn't our home and the only sure thing is that we're all gonna die somehow. What better day than Ash Wednesday to be remembering that?

I for one am glad it's Lent again. I hope I can make it my best Lent ever. Who knows that I'll even be here next year for another one. I'm keeping my resolutions very simple and sticking to them.... Maybe we should start an accountability thread. Would anyone be interested in that?

Dear friends, I share your concerns in all these things. I am also glad to see another Lent and to have another chance to better my soul.

Yes, I would be interested in an accountability thread. JacafamalaRedux, would you like to start one?

Another coincidence is that its approximately 100 years since the Spanish flu outbreak around the end of the first world war. That saw off a few million people.

A woman in her mid 40's in Osaka Japan just got Coronavirus for the second time. All schools in Japan are being closed into April. Beginning to look more and more like this is the big one of our lifetime.

I found this prayer in an article at: Link to Article

From Article Wrote:From the mail: The town of Coimbra (Portugal) having been visited by a violent pestilence, the nuns of St Clare offered their prayers in the following form, whereupon the contagion instantly ceased.  This ancient holy prayer, left to the above-named monastery, has preserved many places from contagion where it is recited daily with confidence in God and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  It has arrested this scourge in many places.

Stella Coeli

The Star of Heaven that nourished the Lord
drove away the plague of death which the first
parents of man brought into the world.

May this bright Star now vouchsafe to extinguish
that foul constellation whose battles have
slain the people with the wound of death.

O most pious Star of the Sea, preserve us from
pestilence; hear us, O Lady, for Thy Son honors
Thee by denying Thee nothing.

Save us, O Jesus, for whom Thy Virgin Mother supplicates Thee.

V: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R: That we may be made worthy of the promises
of Christ.

Let us pray

O God of mercy, God of pity, God of benign clemency,
Thou Who hast had compassion on the affliction of Thy
people, and hast said to the angel striking them,

“Stop thy hand;” for the love of this glorious Star, whose breasts
Thou didst sweetly drink as antidote for our crimes,
grant the assistance of Thy grace, that we may be safely freed
from all pestilence, and from unprovided death;

and mercifully save us from the gulf of eternal perdition:

through Thee, Lord Jesus Christ, King of Glory, who livest and reignest,
world without end.

Amen.
One should have an open mind; open enough that things get in, but not so open that everything falls out
