I'm about to read Paul's epistles again but i want to do it with the aid of a Catholic commentary this time
Sure I could search google and find something but i'd rather hear recommendations from you guys
Also what are the must have texts that every Catholic should have?
I have The Sources of Catholic Dogma by Henry Denzinger
And I have the Catechism of the Catholic Church alphabetically indexed and table of contents. I refer to this a lot
Is there anything else worth referring to for the simple Catholic, without getting into advanced theology?

The Haydock Bible commentary is pretty good. Cornelius A Lapide's commentaries are good if you want something a bit more detailed, but unfortunately most of his works are not available in english(luckily some of the Paul's epistles are). St. Thomas Aquinas compiled some of the writings of the fathers as a commentary for the Four Gospels in "Catena Aurea".
Here are a couple of websites that provide their works for free:
Haydock:

Lapide:

For a good intro to Catholic theology you should check out Ludwig Ott's "Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma". You might be able to find a free PDF of it on archive.org, but the website seems to be a little less liberal with what you can view and download than it used to be.

If you want to know what the Church actually taught before the destruction wrought by Vatican II, I'd suggest using the Roman Catechism, instead of the CCC.
On the problems with the CCC, take a look at BOOK OF ACCUSATION FOR HERESY AGAINST THE AUTHOR OF THE SUPPOSED CATHECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Porkncheese, there's a great app, for IOS, Android and Macs called iPieta. It's free, has the Haydock commentaries, Douay Rheims Bible, all sorts of things that fit your description. You can find it at the App Store (IOS and Mac), and the Google Play store. Also, iPieta.com.

On another note, this book (haven't read it, but may soon) might be helpful. That is Introduction to the Holy Bible for Traditional Catholics: A Beginner’s Guide to Reading the Scriptures for Spiritual Profit, by Timothy Flanders.

Personally, I am looking for more recent commentaries based on what the Church has learned the past 250 years from scholarship, when it comes to biblical assistance in understanding and interpretation. I reckon I can ask for such without leaving me open to charges of "modernism"? Are there any traditionally-tilted resources you can recommend?

Tim Flanders is solid. He writes fairly regularly for One Peter Five.
