What Happened to Sacred Heart Lover?

It seems a lot of the old fishies are getting themselves banned left and right. What's in the water?!

I dont recall precisely, but it was a combination of some spat in a thread and her excessive posting of really "out there" threads.

"[T]he Church is putting off it's medieval character as the mother of nations, returning again into its primitive condition as a society of members scattered among the peoples and cities of the world." - Cardinal Manning, Present Crisis of the Holy See (1861)

Basically there was a big fallout between some members and another user and it led to some really nasty PMs harassing that user. Vox had to put the hammer down and ban 3 users, in which SHL was one. One user apologized and was able to come back. SHL was getting very annoying and kept pushing wild conspiracy theories and then began hijacking every thread and derail them to talk about them because nobody was paying any attention to her anymore...so that was another reason for her banning as she was sending bad vibes on this forum.

I hoped one day she would be able to come back (because contrary to what ppl think, I actually don't like perma-bans at all) but I don't think it is likely.

Nobody really knows here how the system works in these cases. It does seem possible that some should be given a second chance with serious warnings that no further repetitions of the previous problems happen. After all, when we sin we go to confession and start again afresh.

MyLady, Vox doesn't take steps like this lightly or wantonly.  It certainly doesn't happen often (except for spammers and porn ads).  I can think of several instances where folks have come back after what amounts to a time out.

In the end though this is Vox's tank and we just swim in it.  You have no idea how much work goes into this place; it takes true passion and a desire to help others to put such a site together.  Trust that someone who spent years of her life writing about the faith doesn't ban people from her site lightly or randomly.

Indeed.  Personally, I think Vox is very generous in the rules around here, in a good way that allows for productive and interesting discussions.  The fact that we've seen some members receive a temporary ban and then return is a pretty good indication that SHL, as well as Josh, haven't offered a sincere mea culpa and offer to reform their behavior.  That is unfortunate but is what it is.  There are few sites out there like Fisheaters and some measures to prevent the forum portion from heading down the drain like CAF and others will be needed.  And one can only imagine the damage that might be done if a person on the fence came here to study traditional Catholicism only to find that while the main site seemed reasonable the forum is filled with numerous conspiracy theory threads and infighting among members.  The case for traditional Catholicism is a cumulative one and that can be wrecked by distracting, and unnecessary, things like a myopic focus on fringe theories or by disreputable behavior by traditional Catholics.

- 2 Timothy 4:3-4

"Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying: That all may be judged who have not believed the truth, but have consented to iniquity."

For the record, SHL had been warned several times by PM, and had already had a two week ban because of the type of stuff she was posting. She was on at least her third or fourth chance when the permaban hammer finally fell.

I know, because I was still a moderator at the time and I was the one who warned her and gave her the two week ban.

I was sad to see her go, but I am not going to second guess decisions in this case, since Vox seems like a fair person, and part of leadership is making tough choices.

Plus, a lot of her threads really were crazy, cancer mouse material.
