Why are Evangelical Christians Obsessed with Israel?
#11
Because many of them are fixated on the end times. Many are waiting (or have waited) for the Antichrist to appear so that he can make some sort of Treaty to protect Israel, I think. This ends up with them looking at every piece of news involving Israel as “ahh, I see where this is going”, and thinking the rapture is just around the corner, or something like that.

Then, of course, what they think is going to happen doesn’t, and then in disillusionment they go scrambling trying to see what they might have missed and start over.

The Eccentric Preacher, Joseph Wolff, came across a tribe of tent dwellers with book called Seera. The Messiah returns in 1840 it read. Joseph eventually paid a visit to New Jersey and the next thing you know the Methodists are in the Meeting Tent....
Oh, where are the snows of yesteryear!

Evangelical Christians cling to Judaism because they lack tradition, so they regard Judaism as their tradition.
"[I]t is vain to hope to attract souls to God by a bitter zeal."  Pope St. Pius X.

"If anyone deludes himself by thinking he is serving God, when he has not learned to control his tongue, the service he gives is vain.  If he is to offer service pure and unblemished in the sight of God, who is our Father, he must take care of orphans and widows in their need, and keep himself unstained by the world."  James 1:26-27.

Many evangelicals have the idea that America is hand picked by God Himself to have a defining part in salvation history. As Israel is the key nation in salvation history, that implies then that America must be tied to Israel. The extreme view of this is found in the mormons, but evangelicals really push it as well, the idea that America is a savior nation, destined to bring about a new age of Godliness in the world, to guide the world back to God etc.
The idea that America is the last pillar of Godliness and will somehow bring Christ back to the world is such an inward-looking, ignorant ideology that it would make a great joke in a standup comedy routine.

Hungary and Poland are two that immediately come to mind that are militantly holding firm to their beliefs. For how long, we will see. Compare that to the USA which has abortion, same-sex "marriage" and a colossal deterioration in practice of any Christian faith (some of it by and large attributable to the Church's woeful handling of practically everything in the past few decades, but I digress).

The entire post was great but I wanted to comment on this specifically.  If people really want to understand this all, they need to start with the Talmud.  The Pharisees were Talmudists which is simply a collections of teachings and interpretations by rabbis.  They are literally worshipping themselves and their traditions instead of God.  Jesus points this out repeatedly but so many people that read Scripture cannot or will not make the distinction between Jews that believe in the Torah and therefore realized their Messiah had come and those that worshipped in the "Synagogue of Satan" which were and STILL ARE Talmudists.

Continuing...

Evangelicals consistently misidentify modern-day Jews as “Israel,” underscoring one of the most salient errors of Protestantism—that every dyslexic with a censored/abridged “bible” is his own little pope. The Hagee-ites and other Judaizers don’t understand—don’t want to understand—that the Old Law is dead and there is a New Chosen People.

It can be argued that the “synagogue of Satan” (Apocalypse 2:9; 3:9) was instrumental in the development of the Scofield Reference Bible that forms Zionist dispensationalism. The children of the Father of Lies and Murder want to trick today's Chosen People into believing that prophesies of return from the Captivity, prophesies of Antiochus and the Maccabees, and prophesies of Jesus Christ's First Coming instead apply to the End Times.

Again, a review of the covenants and their present disposition is essential in understanding these errors.

  • Noachic: conditional, unbroken, effects still active in God's promise not to destroy the world for sin except at the end of time • Genesis 8:21-9:17
  • Abrahamic: Land promises unconditional, God fulfilled “all” His land promises before the Incarnation, no longer active • Josue 21:41-43; 2 Esdras 9:7-8 Spiritual promises unconditional, still fulfilled in Christ, in the spiritual lineage of Abraham • Genesis 12:3; Galatians 3:6-8; Hebrews 6:13-18; 8:1-13; 10:16-18
  • Levitic: conditional, fulfilled, no longer active • Malachias 2:8-12; Hebrews 7:5-13
  • Mosaic: conditional, fulfilled, void, no longer active, ceremonial, moral and civil laws were abrogated • Deuteronomy 31:16, 20; Judges 2:20; Jeremias 11:10; 31:31-32; Colossians 2:14-15; 2 Corinthians 3:6-14; Hebrews 7:18; 8:13; 10:9
  • Davidic: unconditional, fulfilled in David and Christ • 2 Kings 7:16; Ezechiel 37:24-25; Romans 1:3; Apocalypse 22:16
  • New Covenant: conditional, continuing to be fulfilled in Christ • Galatians 3:17; Hebrews 10:16-18; 11:39-40; 13:20
The synagogue of Satan instigated and abetted all the major heresies, including Protestantism and Islam.  Protestants returned the “favor” by instigating and abetting Zionism. In the 16th century, after Henry VIII’s break from the Church, a lapsed Anglican clergyman, Francis Kett, encouraged his followers to go to Palestine because Jesus was “gathering his people in Jerusalem in his owne person.” Kett’s rabid anti-Catholicism remains one of the most enduring tenets of “Christian” Zionism. Protestant Elizabeth eventually burned Kett at the stake, but English Puritans continued to foster bizarre beliefs about the lost tribes of Israel, an obsession that they imported to the Netherlands and then to America. John Winthrop of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, then John Mather, his son Increase Mather, and grandson Cotton Mather proselytized a proto-Zionism. Cotton Mather promoted the 18th century “messiah” Zabbatai Zevi until Zevi apostatized into, of all things, Islam of the Ottoman Empire. Shocked in the recognition of his own gross errors, Cotton Mather recanted his Judaic obsessions shortly before his death, but others continued to run with the same exegetical errors.

The world recognized the humiliating failure of the proto-Zionist “messiah,” yet shameless Protestants (British travel entrepreneur Thomas Cook, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitfield, and others) still proselytized proto-Zionist rhetoric. In 1793, a former British Royal Navy officer, Richard Brothers, proclaimed himself “Prince of the Hebrews.” In 1814, a 64-year-old “prophetess” Joanna Southcott announced that she was the woman of Apocalypse chapter 12 and that she was pregnant with the new “messiah.” She died without child a few weeks after the anticipated birth. One of Queen Victoria’s Prime Ministers, Lord Palmerston, became the first significant crusader for returning “Jews” to Palestine. In his 1853 letter to then-Prime Minister Aberdeen Shaftesbury, Palmerston wrote one of the most enduring deceits of Zionism. Against overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Palmerston penned that Greater Syria was “a country without a nation” in need of a “nation without a country.” The claim of “British Israel” fanned the flames of global British Imperialism by the “chosen” and led to the infamous Balfour Declaration.

In America, the Puritans were followed by a succession of Zionists, most known among them John Nelson Darby of “dispensationalism” and all its Zionism, “rapture,” and other heresies. What irony that Jewish-spawned Protestantism itself spawned Zionism long before any “Jews” adopted the heresy. Eventually, “Jews” like Theodor Herzl and Samuel Untermeyer adopted Zionism and they also adopted and financed the ex-convict Scofield who wrote his Scofield Reference Bible, a farce that has seduced a century of evangelicals and other maniacal “Christian” Zionists.  “Upon his release from prison, Scofield deserted his first wife, Leonteen Carry Scofield, and his two daughters Abigail and Helen, and he took as his mistress a young girl from the St. Louis Flower Mission. He later abandoned her for Helen van Ward, whom he eventually married. Following his Illuminati connections to New York, he settled in at the Lotus Club, which he listed as his residence for the next twenty years.” See, e.g., http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/hoax/scofield.htm

It was here that he presented his ideas for a new Judeo-Protestant “Bible” concordance, and was taken under the wing of Samuel Untermeyer, who later became chairman of the American Jewish Committee, and president of the American League of Jewish Patriot.  Untermeyer introduced Scofield to numerous Zionist and socialist leaders, including Samuel Gompers, Fiorello LaGuardia, Abraham Straus, Bernard Baruch and Jacob Schiff. These were the people who financed Scofield’s research trips to Oxford and arranged the publication and distribution of his Concordance.

I know a lot of evangelicals, and this definitely rings true for some of them.

Both ends of it: the EVs will visit Jerusalem to somehow embrace tradition that the Faith itself has moved from, just to have some tangible sense of it.

And they eschew, ignore, rationalize away or even sometimes revile the 2000-year history of the Church that Christ actually founded. Not to mention the Church itself.

Perhaps this query could need its own thread, but, while reading that, I quietly asked myself if the Catholic Church hasn't been guilty of worshipping her own teachings and traditions? A bit like a bullet passing the ear and hitting someone else (that being the Jewish belief in this context).

Evangelicals will attempt to chip away at Apostolic tradition at every opportunity. By doing so they believe they can open the door to any kind of private interpretation of Scripture. Once they succeed they pretend to be the new guardians of tradition as in  "Are you really serious ??? You honestly don't believe Jesus Christ will reign on earth for one thousand years".
